Originating from the 2008 27th annual conference of the Sudan Studies Association (SSA) of the same title, these essays document and analyze Sudan’s chronic history of armed conflict since independence in 1956 as well as its own and international efforts to bring an end to these conflicts. The Child Marriage data from 2010 shows that 52% of girls in South Sudan are married before their 18th birthday and 9% are married before the age of 15. 57% of the South Sudanese population are under the age of 18.
