In addition to the constitutional dialogues, marginalised groups were also supported to organise discussions to analyse the Transitional Constitution and put forward recommendations and amendments towards a future constitution that is sensitive to, and promotes the rights of, women, youth and those with disability with reference to the views gathered in the dialogues. This Policy Brief explores the nexus of gender justice and reconciliation in South Sudan. It addresses women’s historical engagement in reconciliation processes in South Sudan at the grassroots and national levels and highlights their achievements to date. It then discusses the challenges to inclusion South Sudanese women face, as well as current opportunities to achieve true reconciliation by actualising gender justice and equality – particularly through effective integration of women into the peace and reconciliation…
In South Sudan, widespread euphoria following independence in July 2011 has given way to disappointment that expected peace dividends have not materialised. We describe the membership, mission, and goals of SSWEN, focusing on…
The findings presented in this report from 2010 are the result of an assessment that was conducted by an independent consultant on two DGTTF (Democratic Governance Thematic Trust Fund) funded projects in Southern Sudan in 2005 and 2008. The projects were part of UNDP’s broad efforts to support the development of decentralized democratic governance through the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed in January 2005.
