This paper (2014) is a brief reflection on the situation in South Sudan at that time, based on meetings with the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, donors, humanitarian agencies, and members of South Sudanese civil society during a two-week mission by SLRC members in mid- to late June 2014. It outlines a few observations on humanitarian crisis; the breakdown of post-conflict mechanisms that were being put in place prior to the outbreak of violence in December 2013; the peace process and the humanitarian response.
