An exploration into the intersections of gender, conflict, and violence in the lives of women and girls in Nimule and Yei, South Sudan

This report was written by D. Alemna, T. Bradley (University of Portsmouth); K. Downie, B. Akok, P. Garang, G. Kwenda, A. Onen & K. Peter (Likikiri Collective)

This report explores how the ongoing conflict and mass displacement intersect with gender norms. Focusing on Nimule payam of Magwi County, and Yei, the report finds that physical, sexual, and emotional violence against women and girls are highly prevalent. To mitigate this violence, the report highlights the need to provide tailored, highly localized, context-sensitive interventions that seek to amend the cultural norms that subvert women’s and girls’ rights.
