This report assesses the community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) approaches in South Sudan. It identifies challenges with the implementation of the CBDRM in the country, such as exclusion of youth and women from decision making process. To enhance the community resilience, it provides some recommendations on disaster risk reduction infrastructure and capacity building for the CBDRM. Download

This study explores the experiences of displacement, return and reintegration among South Sudanese refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The study identifies a number of challenges that hamper return, such as floods, droughts and insecurity. Finally, it provides a set of recommendations on the design of policies and programmes that can facilitate potential return of South Sudanese IDPs and refugees and promote durable solutions. Based on cases studies from the two neighbouring communities of Payinjair of Unity State and Yirol East of Lakes State, the paper examines the effectiveness of local level conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms. The paper finds that local level mechanisms was instrumental in dispute resolution and violence reduction between them.
