Escalation of violence drives mass displacement from Nagero County

This brief assesses the situation of increased forced displacement from Western Equatoria to Western Bahr el Ghazal states following to the escalation of violence in Nagero County in September 2025. The authors identify rising acute humanitarian needs, especially in Bazia of Wau County, raising concerns for the the future, particularly related to food availability and nutritional status, disease outbreaks, protection risks, and mental health conditions. The brief warns against assistance delivered in Bazia so far focusing on short-term emergency interventions, leaving critical gaps unaddressed and heightening conflict-sensitivity risks.
