Building Peace in South Sudan: Local Voices and Lessons

These two thematically linked publications from ZOA-Dorcas outline the positive impact of Peace Committees and the community-based sociotherapy approach implemented in Jonglei State of South Sudan as part of a five-year multi-sectoral project. Showcasing lessons from setting up Peace Committees by training local Peace Promoters in multiple communities close to Bor, the first report highlights how they successfully prevent, mediate, and reconcile intra-community conflicts through their proximity and close collaboration with customary and local government authorities. The second report details how engaging communities with sociotherapy that is rooted in their community structure has helped increase mental well-being, opened up avenues for new income opportunities, and improved gender relations. Moreover, it points to ways in which the approaches can be made effective and scaled beyond impact at individual and household levels.
