Does Federal System Perform Better in Managing Diversity and Reducing Conflicts in Africa? The Case of South Sudan

This article discusses how the governance system has evolved from the colonial to the post-colonial periods in South Sudan. Focusing on the implications of different governance styles on diversity and conflict, the article finds that centralised or unitary governance has largely contributed to violence and disunity compared to a decentralised system. The article suggests that the adoption of a centralised federal system can lead to a reduction of violence and preserve diversity in South Sudan.
