Bridging the Cattle Raids: Traditional Justice and Mediation in South Sudan

Focusing on the phenomenon of cattle raiding among pastoral communities in South Sudan, this article explores the role that traditional justice and mediation play in addressing the violence associated with the practice. The article argues that although traditional justice and mediation mechanisms have been effective, they face challenges from formal state institutions and armed groups. To strengthen conflict resolution, the paper suggests that the traditional justice system should be integrated into formal justice systems.
